Living Strong

Living Strong

Living Strong is a healthy lifestyle and weight management group-based program for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander adults (>18 years).  It uses a behaviour change approach to improve health and wellbeing and prevent chronic diseases. The program was modified from the Lighten Up to a Healthy Lifestyle program in 1997.  Living Strong was previously known as The Healthy Weight Program, but was revised and renamed in 2007.

Living Strong includes health screenings and a series of workshops that can be combined in a variety of ways to suit community and local group needs.  Workshops address various lifestyle and personal issues, including healthy eating, physical activity, self esteem and behaviour change.  The program also incorporates practical sessions on cooking, shopping, budgeting and physical activity.
