FALLS ADVISORY CLINIC
The Falls Advisory Clinic is set up to assess a person's risk of falling and to determine the exact cause using the Stephen Lord Physiological Falls Screen. This tests their reaction time, proprioception, balance, strength and eyesight. It enables us to pinpoint more closely the reason why they may be falling and to target the cause. The patient has to be willing to undertake a simple home exercise program and make other changes that we recommend. We use an intake officer to triage the referrals and then the occupational therapist usually phones the client to make the appointment and can further screen them. GPs can make out referrals in the usual way to community health and just write Falls Risk and the reason for that on the form. Obviously if it is a matter of dizziness due to meds or eye problems needing new glasses, we cannot do anything about that. I will attach the form detailing the criteria.
